The Blue Ridge RC&D is a 501-(c)3 non-profit organization that works with local communities to improve the quality of life and standard of living in our seven county area (Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey).
Mission
Blue Ridge RC&D works with partners to conserve natural resources, foster environmental stewardship, and support sustainable community development in northwest North Carolina.
Objectives
The objectives of the corporation are to address needs and opportunities in the area of water management, land management, community development, and land conservation.
Project Examples
Water- stream enhancement & restoration, invasive species control & native revegetation plans, 303-d listed streams, stormwater management, river clean-up events, etc.
Soil- sustainable agriculture, soil stabilization, land conservation, etc.
Energy- renewable energy projects and energy efficiency upgrades
Forest- timber management techniques, invasive species control, Firewise programs, etc.
Recreation- parks, trails, greenways, blueways, education and outreach, etc.
Wildlife- land and habitat conservation, habitat improvement, wildlife corridors, hemlock restoration, pollinator gardens, etc.
Cultural- learning centers, heritage programs, education and outreach programs, etc.
Economic- business parks, youth programs, job creation, etc.
Education- work with schools, community colleges, colleges, trade schools, civic groups, faith based groups,manufacturing companies, local businesses, or any of the above topics and more.
